The Giant Anteater
The first stop on my trip to the Pantanal in the Southern Pantanal was to observe and photograph the Anteaters, we were able to locate and photograph many individuals, we were able to get up close and watch their behaviour. It was an amazing experience. We stayed at Aguape Lodge which is the home for research of the Anteaters. It was amazing to see the beauty of the Giant Anteaters, Their size and behaviour was a treat to observe. They feed mainly on insects. They have been classified as vulnerable under the IUCN
The Southern Tamandua
“The southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla), also called the collared anteater or lesser anteater, is a species of anteater from South America. It is a solitary animal, found in many habitats from mature to highly disturbed secondary forests and arid savannas. It feeds on ants, termites, and bees. Its very strong fore claws can be used to break insect nests or to defend itself.” Source: Wikipedia
